Focus with me for a moment. Let’s ask ourselves some questions. Questions like these: On what do we give our undivided attention? Who do we give our all to? What, or who, gets our very best, day after day? These are questions we need to be asking in this brand new year.
New year, new focus.
But not so much of a new focus. Just one we let become blurry as life takes us through storms or though the fog. Even bigger reasons to place our affections on Jesus this year and focus, focus, focus! Let’s behold Him like never before. Let’s gaze upon Him like a precious gem we are fascinated with, or a work of art. Can we adore Him like the Magnificent Wonder He is? Even more so? He is the King of all things, is He not? The Beginning. The End. The Author. The Finisher. Faithful and True. Look at Him. Look at this Beautiful God.
When we are with someone and we stare at our phones, we don’t give them the attention they deserve. Texting, scrolling, looking up… “Huh?” Yea. It’s like that. How about when we spend time with Jesus? Worshiping Him. Meditating on His word. Let’s put the phones of our life down and stare into the eyes of our Beloved!
Focusing on Jesus is like listening to a song so intently that you don’t want any distractions until it’s finished. Someone always tries to talk to you right before your favorite part comes on, don’t they?! And then you say: “Shhh…hang on! This is my favorite song!”
How much more should we give our whole being to the One who created the universe. To the One who flung those stars into space? The One who decided to love us so much that He BECAME A MAN. That God! Yes! That Jesus who put down His divinity and walked in our shoes, sinless. The One who gave up His life willingly that you and I might have NEW LIFE!
Can we just lay it all down and give Him the attention He deserves this new year?
Let’s focus on the One who became sin. The One who knew no sin. Let’s focus on the One who gave His righteousness to us in exchange for our unrighteousness.
New year, new focus. His name is Jesus!
Hebrews 12:2 ~ Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God’s throne.
