Ask The Director 2.1

By Jeff Bonzelaar January 28, 2013 October 3, 2013 Ask The Director

What is the most important thing you look for when hiring staff?       Currently, we have 29 full-time staff serving 97 students. While I appreciate creative, enthusiastic, hard-working, fun-loving, reliable, wise, caring team-mates, the most important quality for being a good staff member is personal holiness—men and women … Continue reading

Ask The Director 1.5

By Jeff Bonzelaar November 29, 2012 November 30, 2012 Ask The Director

What general advice do you have for the parents of a son or daughter who is using?       Don’t sacrifice your marriage for the sake of a wayward child. The most important relationship you have—next to God—is with your spouse. Protect that bond. Nourish it. Don’t let anything … Continue reading

Ask The Director 1.4

By Jeff Bonzelaar November 12, 2012 November 29, 2012 Ask The Director

How important is self-esteem to recovery?       Our essential problem is not how we value ourselves but how we value God. Solomon did not say that the beginning of wisdom was a high opinion of self; rather, a high and holy view of God (see Prov. 1:7). The … Continue reading

Fight Fire With Fire

By Jeff Bonzelaar September 26, 2012 October 31, 2012 Ask The Director

Sexual bondage and drug/alcohol addiction often go hand-in-hand, and the former is often more difficult to break than the later. Any suggestions on how to win the war against sexual impurity?     You must fight fire with fire. Fire fighters will often set controlled fires against an oncoming forest … Continue reading

What can you tell us about the history, ministry and organization of Life Challenge of Southeastern Michigan?       Life Challenge is a part of Teen Challenge, International, the oldest, most successful faith-based recovery program in the world. It began in 1958 in New York City. There are now … Continue reading

Ask The Director 1.2

By Jeff Bonzelaar July 21, 2012 July 21, 2012 Ask The Director

I understand that you do not permit your residents (i.e., students) to address staff or volunteers by their first name. Why?       Lack of respect for authority is prevalent in our culture and especially among our clientele. Our men and women must learn to differentiate between their peers … Continue reading

Ask The Director 1.1.

By Jeff Bonzelaar June 29, 2012 July 21, 2012 Ask The Director

You have said that it is not enough to “try” to be holy but that you must “train” to be holy. What do you mean?       Whether it is running a marathon, playing a concerto on the piano, or writing a technical computer program, any significant challenge requires … Continue reading

Life Challenge Ministries COVID-19 Preparedness

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that can result in serious illness or death. It is caused by a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in humans and easily spread from person to person. There is currently no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment for this disease.

To protect our residents, staff, and our community from infection, and to fully comply with state and local guidance, ATC/LCM has adopted the following protocols on all our campuses:

1. We have permitted only essential staff and volunteers on our campuses. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, hand washing/sanitizing stations, and cleaning equipment is made available to those as needed.

2. Resident visitation is permitted with the following requirements in place:

  1. Visitors must sign-in, complete a COVID-19 screening and temperature check, wear a mask for the duration of the visit, and maintain social distance of 6 ft.
  2. Residents must wear a mask for the duration of the visit and maintain social distance of 6 ft.
  3. No food or beverages may be consumed during visitation.
  4. Visitation space is sanitized immediately following the conclusion of visitation time.

3. Common surfaces in our public spaces are wiped down with alcohol-based cleaners frequently.

4. Signs describing social distancing protocol, mask guidelines, hand washing instructions, and general hygiene etiquette are posted throughout our buildings.

5. Essential staff must be evaluated for COVID-19 symptoms at the front desk upon entry to the building and wear a mask when occupying a common space, and in offices if unable to maintain social distancing.

6. Unauthorized visitors and those who fail the evaluation will be refused entry onto our campuses.

7. In case of infection, we have designated special dormitories/rooms to house those residents who are under our care.

8. Whenever possible, outside meetings with non-essential persons are conducted using telecommunication tools.
