I am angry.
I hate drugs.
We lost a man.

Tim was one of our residents. Nine months into the program, three to go. He had come so far. He was on an approved pass taking care of some family business. He made a bad decision in a moment of weakness. He is now dead.

He overdosed. Heroin.

He leaves behind a beautiful wife and two little boys. They will never eat another meal around the kitchen table together. They will never share another birthday party together. They will never play ball in the park together. No more family vacations, no more trips to the store, no more walks along the beach. Not ever. Not here.

I’m so mad I could swear. I did.
Drugs steal. Drugs destroy. Drugs kill.
They deceive.

A person thinks he is in control only to find out too late he is caught in an unforgiving web out of which he cannot escape. It is devilish.

These are normal people getting hooked. They could be your sons. Daughters. Aunts. Cousins. Brothers. Nephews. Friends. Coworkers. Neighbors.

Drugs are not a respecter of persons. Age, race, intelligence, family history, socioeconomic background . . . mean nothing. A person doesn’t have to come from the opposite side of the “tracks” to end up an addict.

It’s not only a city problem. It’s in rural America. It’s all over.

That’s why we need your help. We have the answer—the only Answer. Jesus.

We need staff. We need prayer. We need money.

I am not ashamed of the gospel—it works (see Romans 1:16)!

I am also not ashamed to beg.

Too many people are dying. Too many families are suffering. Too many communities are being ravaged.

In 1792, the Baptist Missionary Society was formed in the home of Andrew Fuller. For the next twenty-one years, Fuller served as the leader of this organization—raising funds, writing periodicals, recruiting missionaries, sending personal letters to those on the frontlines.

He made good on a promise he made to the great missionary William Carey who, upon his first trip to the unknown world of India, looked at the small band of brothers around him and said, “I will go down, if you will hold the rope.”

Andrew Fuller subsequently held the rope while Carey went down. He himself persevered amidst severe personal affliction and overwhelming responsibilities, allowing Carey to stay the course in India. Why? Like Carey, Fuller longed for unreached peoples to hear the gospel and experience the love of God.

Help us. We will go down. We need you to hold the ropes.
